How to tell military time chart

military time charts can be a little confusing at first, but they are actually very simple once you understand the structure. Military time charts allow you to communicate time both accurately and quickly. Military time is used in many aspects of military life, including scheduling, completing tasks and keeping mission-critical operations on track.

So what is Military Time?

Military time is a 24-hour system of measuring time. This means that instead of using the 12-hour am/pm system most commonly used in civilian life, military personnel use a 24-hour system that begins at midnight and ends at 23:59 (known as 2359). For example, 3pm would be expressed as 1500 (15 = 3PM). This system eliminates any confusion about whether it's morning or evening.

Here is a chart you can use to get better acquainted with the 24 hour format:

• Midnight: 0000

• 1AM: 0100

• 2AM: 0200

• 3AM: 0300

• 4AM: 0400

• 5AM: 0500 • 6AM: 0600 • 7AM: 0700 • 8AM: 0800 • 9AM: 0900 • 10AM 1000 • 11AM 1100 • Noon 1200 • 1PM 1300 • 2PM 1400 • 3PM 1500 • 4PM 1600 • 5PM 1700 • 6PM 1800 • 7PM 1900 • 8PM 2000 • 9PM 2100

• 10 PM 2200

• 11 PM 2300

• Midnight 2400

By understanding the above chart and following simple conversions, you can quickly determine any time within the 24-hour clock format. To figure out the exact minute value of any hour on the military time chart all you have to do is add two zeros after the four digit number. For example, if you wanted to know what 834 would look like it would be 0834 hours (8 AM 34 minutes). If you want to figure out how many total hours are between two times simply subtract one from the other. For instance if 1250 hrs (12:50 pm) minus 0140 hrs (1 AM 40 minutes) equals 1110 hrs (11 Hours 10 minutes).
